Over the last few years I have tried on numerous occasions to learn French but sadly have had little success. When I was at University I studied it in my first year but at the time found it too overwhelming. I was then put off learning French online even further following a rather unsuccessful trip to France . Armed with just my phrase book and my limited French vocabulary, I endeavored, to no avail, to converse with a French taxi driver and a lady in a restaurant. Despite my keenness they were either very intolerant or ignorant as they appeared not to know, or want to know, what I was trying to say. Thus my love affair with the French language died a slow death and I refused to continue to learn it. That is until recently when I discovered how to learn French online!
I Found a Pod cast Called 'Coffee Break' FREE FRENCH LESSONS ONLINE!
Whilst browsing through podcasts on LearnOutLoud I came across a FREE series of over 100 pod casts teaching you how to learn French online. However due to my past experiences I chose not to listen to the pod casts straightaway. I later realized this was quite silly and so decided to listen to the first French online lesson and was pleasantly surprised. Each pod cast lasts for about 15 minutes, hence why it is called Coffee Break French, and explains how to learn French online successfully. The French lessons have an emphasis not only on vocabulary but also the correct pronunciation, which is obviously something that I am lacking according to the French taxi driver and the lady in the restaurant! Anyway, I played these French lessons to my husband, who is pretty good at speaking German, and he thought it was great! How sad are we?! The only thing that I dislike about these learn French pod casts is that the conversations between the two speakers often get lost in translation and I would prefer that they did not waste time with trivial talk. However it is completely free so I can’t complain too much!
My Husband Now Has A Total Of 15 Words In His French Vocabulary!
He has in fact uploaded these how to learn French online pod casts to his rather posh HTC phone and listens to them on the way home from work and in the garden at the weekends. Such is his enthusiasm for these that he has started speaking French to me and, as much as I hate to admit it, I have been endeavoring to answer back! I have now taken to listening to the pod casts myself in the hope to learn French and maybe one day I shall try and converse with a French speaking person again… although I’m not quite brave enough yet!
The Trick Is to Learn Sayings That Are Part of Your Everyday Life and Use a Text To Speech Converter
If I recall correctly from University, one of the tricks I used to learn French was to study as many nouns and noun phrases as possible. This did help, however I think I did not concentrate on the actually learning French phrases enough, as I know many French nouns in isolation but find it difficult to string a sentence together. The only alternative to help me learn French would of course be to divorce my husband and marry a French speaking man, but that would be too costly and my husband makes a wicked chicken curry, so he has to stay! There is an alternative though; you can use the FREE Google power text to speech converter to show you how to learn French online. Simply type in the phrase you want to say in English and then convert the text to French. You will then be able to listen to it in French online and get a 'parfait' pronunciation, now I'm showing off, just converted 'perfect' into French and got the pronunciation as well!
What I would love to know is what your experience of learning French is or has been? If you are native French and have an accent, please do contact me if you are in the UK - all French accents welcomed here!!
