Hotel.Com Giving away a Free Kindle!

Kindle, Wi-Fi, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology - includes Special Offers & Sponsored ScreensaversI have recently been given a Kindle as a gift. At first I was not impressed by the blandness of it, but once I started downloading   e-books, i was soon singing its praises.
The Kindle is an electronic book reader developed by Amazon. It allows you to download, books magazines  newspaper and blogs. As well as reading books you can also listen to books on the Kindle.
Grab a free kindle see below.
Why I like the kindle:
1: Ideal as I don't have to carry a bulky book or newspaper around.
2: Very lightweight and portable.
3: Quick to download.
4: Has an inbuilt dictionary, so if you don't know a word you can look it up.
5: The cost for the Kindle  for Kindle books is generally much less than the price for a paper book and so you will get your initial investment back.
6: The battery last up to a month and so you don't have to constantly charge it.
7: You can increase the text size so you can view at a size that is comfortable for your eyes.
8: Whenever you are tired of reading you can also use Text-To-Speech with auto-page turning features.
9:   Easy to use
10: Allows me to access lots of free books that I would have otherwise not read. Things I don't like:
1: It has no back light and so  difficult to see in the dark
2: Navigating around it is slow. However, once you open text to read it is fine.
3: It does not come with a case. You have to buy this separately along with head phones. Without the case it would definitely get damaged in my bag.
4: Not many children books available for a Kindle and device not really child friendly - more of an adult device.
5: Many of the books I would like to read are not available on Kindle.

Who else wants their child to speak a foreign language?

According to research carried out, most young children find it difficult to learn a foreign language
at school. The top complaint from young children is that the language is boring, sounds funny or they don’t understand how it works! So how do we get them to speak a foreign language?

Apparently , when learning a foreign language at school, most young children,  even if they start at the age of three or four, do not develop language skills beyond basic counting of a few  numbers,
rdinal numbers
basic one word nouns and one or two phrases.

Tips on how to help your child with reading.

There is no significant difference between young children who start to learn a foreign language at the  age of three or four years old, or those who start to learn at the age of eleven. Indeed, the eleven year old is more likely to understand the complex grammar rules, as their language skills have developed sufficiently to understand the intricacies of a foreign language.
Ever the optimist, I say give it ago - it's only research after all. There are plenty of good language books for children to learn foreign languages at home.Check out the Audio Book Store - foreign languages for children.

Globe Theatre Makes A Good Day Out

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre UK, London.

We took the children from my drama club to the Shakespears Globe Theatre.

The guided tour lasted 40 minutes and covered the  reconstruction of the theatre. Our  tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The children, aged 6 to 19, really enjoyed it and said they would definitely go back.

Below the Shakespears Globe Theatre they have an exhibition. However, there was more text to read than actual exhibits and audio recordings. The children did, however, like the interactive exhibition, where you could listen to a Shakespearean play and then read, record and play it back. If you are like me and like to listen to the spoken word, read about Free Audio Bood here.

The facilities at Shakespears Globe Theatre, in terms of rest room and cafe, are of a high standard and exceptionally clean.
Southwark Bridge to Shakespeare's Globe.

I would definitely go back, if only to take in the outside scenery and have a cup of hot drinking chocolate or a cool non-alcoholic cocktail.

Some Cool Facts About The Globe Theatre:

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre is dedicated to the exploration of Shakespeare's work and the playhouse for which he wrote, through the connected means of performance and education.

Shakespeare's Globe was first built in London in 1599.

There were no toilets in the original Globe Theatre - a bucket was passed around!!

It was destroyed by fire on 29 June 1613

A modern reconstruction of the Globe, named "Shakespeare's Globe", opened in 1997.

St Paul's Cathedral

The  Shakespears Globe theatre overlooks the Thames River, adjacent to the new Tate Gallery of Modern Art and opposite St. Paul's Cathedral,

The open-air theater-in-the-round is a faithful reconstruction of the original Shakespeare Globe Theatre.

The groundlings, who stood in the middle of the theater, below the stage, were exposed to the elements. There was no heating or air conditioning.

The shows were advertised by the use of flags attached to poles. Black connoted tragedy, red was history and white was comedy.

There were no female actors in theatre production. Female roles had to be played by boys or men.
