Primary Learning Resources  - Making Audio Educational Resources

It's not always necessary to buy audio educational resources, and in times of austerity we are all looking to cut back. Already from this site, you know that you can listen to free audio books, songs and audio times tables. What about making your own audio visual learning resources with your child and using it to help your children learn?  Yes, there are great free audio visuals resources on-line, but nothing can beat the interaction and fun of children and adults coming together to make their own.

The Benefits
- Cost effective, you can make them for hardly any money, as long as you have the basic requirements.
- Fun to make , children enjoy making and using what they have created. Just like when they make cakes, biscuits or sandwiches they love to share them with the rest of the family and always enjoy what they have made the most - no matter what they taste like!
- It gives your child a sense of achievement and self-esteem to know that they  have created a useful resource.
- It means that you are interacting with your child in a positive way and many techno dads will get an opportunity to have fun with their kids. Having said that, you do not have to have much technical skills to make the resources I am going to suggest.
- If your child likes,  you can upload your audio visual resource to YouTube or to this site and it can go viral and inspire other children. Just leave a comment and add the link to the resource.

What you need:
- If you have a PC that has a built in microphone and audio recording device / programme e.g. Window Media Player, then you can do this directly to your PC.
- If your not sure how to use your audio device use Voisses   Talking Memories,   Tizmy as they are very simple to use and they make sharing your work easy. I have used Voisses.
- If your PC does not have a built in microphone, you will need to purchase a microphone you can use with your PC. Microphones start from as little as £10. Try and get the best one possible so that your recorings have good quality sound.
- Don't want to use a PC? Then buy a traditional audio recorder that takes cassettes and record and just play back. You can still purchase cassettes in shops. I have also use this method.  I have a Sony cassette recorder - the one below. Have had mine for over 10 years, still perfect.

What you can record:
1:  Multiplication table songs. Record one with answers and one without. Add music, beat a drum or pot, use special voice effects, clap hands, stamp feet - just make music and sing times tables!
2: Children can write a story and read it out allowed - we all love audio stories here. Why not try special effects?  If they don't like writing, get them to read a  well known story and record it.
3: Have problem with science?  Read sections of the book together and then play it back for your child. Some children remember the information once they hear it out aloud several time. Why not add extra information or read sections twice and add special effects - just make it fun. I actually did this with a student and their science level jumped one grade!

Here is a times table song I made with my son. He is on the pan - saucepan! Check out my cool voice.lol! Just have fun- let children sing - he did not want to sing!
